English Paper Piecing and Applique
English Paper Piecing and Applique
Teacher: Dawn Davis
Learn a centuries old hand sewing technique with a modern twist. Create precise shapes when you learn the English Paper Piecing (EPP) quilting technique, where fabric is wrapped around paper pieces. The design possibilities are endless because the shapes align beautifully. Dawn will show you how to piece a hexagon (hexies) shape, but the same principles apply when you work with diamonds and other shapes. She’ll show you how to choose your materials and tools, create the hexagons, and then appliqué them onto a canvas tote bag.
You will also Learn how to:
•Use three ways to baste your fabric
•Use paper piecing templates
•Use pattern and layout ideas
•Use different methods of marking fabric
•Choose your thread
Kit will include the following supplies
•Fabric
•Canvas Bag
•#10 Millners needles
•Bohn glue pen
•Paper hexies
•Aurifil thread
•Wonder Clips
You will need to bring:
•Rotary Cutter and small cutting mat. I like to use the Olfa Splash rotary cutter and a small 6” cutting mat
•Small SHARP scissors•Straight pins. I like to use ½" applique pins but any straight pin will work.
•Reading glasses or magnifiers (optional but incredibly useful)Note: Sewing machine is not required.
